Power Comes With a Price.
Here are some things that mermaids should always try to avoid:
The Full Moon-
Though it can give a mermaid new powers, the full moon can also make a mermaid lose her mind and control over her powers. Certain full moons are capable of ridding a mermaid of her powers for good.
Sharks-
These creatures go absolutely nuts when they get a whiff of a mermaid underwater. If you do confront one of these, the best thing to do is swim away as fast as possible. If you confront one while hurt or injured and have no chance of escaping, then create a frozen bubble around the shark and force it to stop moving. To stay alive, sharks must keep swimming, so by stopping its motion you are killing it, leaving you able to get away safely.
Ambergris:
This stuff, when put on a human male, can put a mermaid under its spell as soon as she smells it. It will have her drooling over him, beau or not (see myths page). Most likely mermaids will not have to worry about this, as it smells foul to humans and is quite expensive, but be wary just in case.
Water:
Believe it or not, the biggest thing that mermaids have to look out for is water. Water has a history of going after mermaids during full moons, when they are the most vulnerable, and attempting to turn them into water or capture them. It is not known why this happens, but it can be extremely dangerous, especially for lone mermaids.
Humans:
This one is a bit self explanatory.
